How to hide your survival food

So you have spent a lot of time and money putting together your food storage program but is it really safe? In the time of an emergency, the last thing you want to have to be  concerned about is having others find your survival food and possibly taking them from you. In this article we will look at the best places and ways to keep your survival food from other people. If you want to share then  that should be your decision not others who would take your food from you and your family.

  • Don’t put your food all in one place. Many people think that if they come up with a good hiding place for their food that they should keep all of their food there. Remember, you may not be able to get to your hiding place or it may get destroyed so it is crucial that you have alternative food storage place.

  • Keep it low if you can. Storms fires and emergencies can effect storage places if they are above ground much easier than if they are below ground and are visually more difficult to see. Keep it low if you can!

  • Cold rooms can be created anywhere. You don’t have to have a sophisticated area to do this, it can be created in many spots around your home. Think of the dark lower ares of your home like the spots underneath the stairs. These can be disguised with panels to give the appearance that there is nothing underneath.

  • Garage storage is another excellent place to keep your survival foods. Keep in mind that you goal is to keep your food cool and dry so if you have a garage that gets little ventilation or gets very hot in the summer, then you may want to re-think this plan. You can use bins and containers and place them throughout the ceiling and floor area so that they are not obvious as food storage.

  • Your furniture is also an excellent place to hide some of your food.  There is a lot of hidden storage space under your furniture and in many cases there is a cover on the bottom that can be removed to reveal even more space. Furniture storage is a great place for people who may have limited storage space like people who live in apartments.

  • Did you know that most interior walls are hollow? You may want to open a section of some of your walls and cover that opening with a picture so that you have easy access.

  • You can also dig a hole in your yard or several holes. Make them the size of any plastic storage container you buy. Remember for grass to grow over these storage areas, you will need about 8-10 inches of soil above the container.

  • Use your car for your bug out food supply. You can get survival foods that are in easily storable buckets that ate great for bug out meals. Some of our buckets will feed an adult for entire month and only take up an area of 16X16 inches. You can fit several of those in your truck to feed your whole family.

There really are endless place to store your food at your home. Don’t forget that during some emergencies you may not be able to get to your home and having that stash of food at work or in your car could prove to be a life saver. Make sure you attempt to make friends  with likeminded people so that you can store food at each person’s home  in the event one of you cannot get to your home.
