Don't Leave Your Safety to Chance: The Ultimate Guide to Emergency Essentials!

Don't Leave Your Safety to Chance: The Ultimate Guide to Emergency Essentials!

emergency essentials

I get it... thinking about emergency essentials sounds scary, right?

Gathering these items may make it seem like there's something bad lurking around the corner. But guess what? That's completely wrong!

Emergency essentials are exactly what the words imply: having all the necessary items on hand for any unforeseen emergencies. You never really know where an emergency can come from.

Some people think I'm talking about the "zombie apocalypse" OR an "end of the world scenario". The truth is that if either one of those happened, you really wouldn't need to prepare because THAT would be the end of the world. Why prepare?

I'm referring to a storm that could knock your power out for a few days. Or maybe another "world illness" that leaves the grocery store shelves empty.

All I'm saying is to be prepared for little emergencies that can and do happen.

There are some very basic items you'll need to have on hand, so let's look at those now.

A reliable water supply

Water is a basic life support item. The rule of thumb is that you can go only three days without water. After that, your chance of survival is not good. Not to mention that you need water for other reasons like washing yourself. At a bare minimum, you should have at least a gallon a day per person. Keep in mind, this is the "bare minimum". I would recommend 2- 3 gallons. You should have at least a two weeks supply. For one adult, that's 28-42 gallons per person. I know that seems like a lot but if you get a service like what we have that delivers the 5-gallon bottles of water, it is doable. You may have to use the water that is available to you ad it could be contaminated. I found this really cool water filtration system and you can see the best price by clicking here.

Non-perishable food supply

Have a supply of nonperishable foods. I recommend our canned meats from Survival Cave Food. They last for years and are healthy and delicious. It's better to have more than you need rather than to run out. Remember to include food for your furry friends as well. They come in 5 different varieties, canned beef, canned chicken, canned ground beef, canned turkey, and canned pork. They also come in two different size cans depending on how many people are in your family.. You can buy the cans individually or save by buying a full case of 12.

Basic First Aid Kit

You won't need a crazy expensive kit but it should include the essentials to treat basic injuries. I found one on Amazon and you can click the picture below to see the best price. A basic first aid kit with essentials like band-aids, Neosporin, gauze, and alcohol wipes will suffice. This is for minor injuries, so gather the items you likely already have in your home. Check out the picture below for the first aid kit I like. You can click here to check the current price.

Flashlights and/or Candles

Be prepared for darkness, but make sure you have batteries or matches. Having candles can be a bonus, especially if it's cold outside and you need some warmth. Most people think that candles are candles. The truth is that regular candles don't b urn for very long. You should invest in actual "survival candles". Survival candles burn for a much longer period of time and are more reliable. There is a picture below of the ones I recommend because they last for 115 hours. Emergency Shelter

Your home is your primary shelter, but it's wise to have a backup plan. Consider having a tent, blankets, and a sleeping bag as part of your emergency essentials. When choosing a tent, I recommend that you select one that is as large as possible. Usually, a tent that is a six-person tent works best. If you have more people than that in your family, it is advisable to get another tent. I found a really good one on Amazon that is well-constructed and is an all-weather tent. The current price for this tent can be seen by clicking here.

Remember, the basic items should be compact enough to fit in a backpack or small duffel bag. Having an emergency bag ready to grab and go is highly recommended. The last thing you want is to scramble during an emergency, trying to remember where you put everything.

Now, these are the bare minimum emergency essentials, but there are other items you may find important to have on hand:

Personal Items: Don't forget clothes, hygiene items, and other essentials for your personal comfort.

Entertainment Items

Keep stress levels down by including items like magazines or a deck of cards to pass the time.

Emergency Tools

It's always handy to have a can opener, utility knife, and other tools that can be useful in various situations. Having the right tool on hand can be a real lifesaver. I love this multitool I found and it takes up very little room. You can click here to grab one.

Hand Crank Radio

A hand crank radio serves a dual purpose. It provides important weather and emergency updates, and can also be a source of entertainment. The cool thing is that you never have to worry about batteries. If you want to add one of these to your emergency list, click here to get the one pictured below.

The list goes on, and as you gather your items, prioritize those that are vital for your survival. Make a customized list based on your family's specific needs.

For so many years, people kinda made fun of the fact that I sell emergency foods. They thought it was kinda "fringe" thinking. But once the pandemic hit, people got it. They saw the food shortages that I predicted in my book "The Great American Food Shortage"

So you've read my guide on how to prepare but some of you may have already done some preparations. I'd love to hear about what you've put together. Put your comments below.
